Acer strengthens its third position in the global PC market and ranks second for notebooks

Acer confirms its positive growth trend and leadership within the PC industry with significant results achieved during the 2008 notwithstanding the global difficulties of the market. According to the worldwide market data released by analyst firm Gartner, Acer strengthened its third position in the total PC market (Deskbased-, Mobile-PCs and X-86 servers) and confirmed its second position in the notebook segment.


Gartner data for the last year illustrate that the worldwide computer market registered an average year-on-year growth of 10.8% during the 2008.


Within this context, Acer maintained excellent pace with significant results consolidating its third position in the total PC market with a 11.1% market share and a 24.0% YoY growth rate, more than two times higher than the worldwide market growth.


In the notebook segment, Acer further strengthened its second spot worldwide by recording a 38.8% growth (2007 vs. 2008) backed by a 17.7% market share.


“Globally, the PC market growth is driven by consumer demand for mobile products and mobility has always been Acer’s focus” comments Gianfranco Lanci, Acer Inc. CEO and President.

“The results we achieved in the 2008 confirm that our investments on both R&D and Marketing have provided Acer with a solid base for growth and ensure we are ready to face any difficulties that may arise. Acer’s exponential growth is a combination of an increase in brand awareness, consistency of our channel-based business model and fresh technology in all our products”.
